Parish Nurse

Suncoast Parish Nurse Ministry, the Visiting Nurses Association, the Medical Reserve Corps of Sarasota County and the Sarasota County Health Department will be providing our first drive-thru Flu Shot Clinic at the church on Saturday, October 10, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

 

This is for seasonal flu only, NOT H1N1 flu, also known as swine flu. The cost of the shots is $25.00, payable on that day. Cash, check or a copy of a Medicare-B card are accepted.  For those with private insurance, receipts will be provided for the individual to submit. Pneumonia shots will also be available at a cost of $45.00. The drive-through mode is easy, comfortable and especially helpful to people with oxygen or difficulty standing and walking. No appointments are necessary and everyone between the age of 9 years and older is welcome.

Are you caring for aging parents or an ill spouse? 

Suncoast Worship Center's Parish Nurse Health Ministry will host a Caregivers Conference on Saturday March 21, 2009 from 9:30- 11:30 a.m. at the church campus, located at 881 S. River Rd, Englewood.  Sponsored by River Oaks, Senior Friendship Centers, and Tidewell Hospice.

Experts from local hearing, vision, home health, medical supply, and other senior-oriented businesses as well as county angencies will be able to provide informational literature and answer questions at the end of the speaker presentations.

The program is available to the public at no charge.
Light refreshments will be available.

What is a Parish Nurse?

A Parish Nurse is a Registered Nurse with additional training in "whollistic" ministry, who is called and committed to the healing ministry of the church. The Parish Nurse serves the congregation (and the community) to help meet emotional , physical, and spiritual needs of the members. This ministry is grounded in the tradition of the church "to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick" (Luke 9:2)

H ealth Counselor

Discuss individual health needs regarding illness, medication, prevention, and wellness and reassurance during times of concern or crisis.

E ducator

Promote the relationship between faith, health, attitudes and lifestyle choices through bulletin articles, literature rack and programs.

A dvocate

Identify the medically under-insured, indigent or abandoned, or any members of the congregation/community who need support for decision making about healthcare issues.

L iason

Connect congregational and community members to each other in response to needs as well as appropriate services within the community and government agencies.

T rainer

Recruit and supervise volunteers in health and pastoral ministries and provide information/education to assist them in their role.

H ealer

Facilitate a whole person approach to healing of body, mind and spirit through presence, prayer, home or hospital visitation.
